Why it is Still A Good Time to Buy Property in Spain

As a former Bank Manager and more recently working as a qualified Independent Financial Adviser (IFA), the constant request from my clients was to achieve a return on their investments which would provide long term financial security for their families.

So, why do I believe there is still great opportunity to buy in Spain and achieve ‘real’ (inflation beating) positive returns in the medium to longer term?

The 3 main reasons which give a compelling case:

  1. Strong economic growth in Spain continues where significantly the region of Murcia is top of the national table for regional growth at 78.5% in 2006. (2007 figures yet to be declared). The region of Murcia is seen as ‘the jewel in the crown’ of Spain.

  2. Madrid continues to provide funds to the region of Murcia which is typically used to improve infrastructure, including improvements to health and transport links. Furthermore, agreement and funding has been agreed for a new regional airport to be opened at Corvera. The new airport will bring increased traffic from the UK and other parts of the E.U. and will help stimulate further economic growth for the region and this will, inevitably, help increase property prices.

  3. The increasing exodus of ‘Brits’ leaving the UK to either migrate to Spain permanently or seeking long term lettings to enjoy ‘the good life’. The typical EX-Pat is now looking for a home or holiday which offers good accommodation with direct access to an abundance of facilities and services.

Where should I buy?

Location, location, location! This remains extremely relevant for good long term prospects.
